Structural Insulated Panels – SIP

« Back to Glossary Index

SIPs are prefab panels consisting of a thick rigid insulation core between two structural facings, such as oriented strand boards (OSB) or, less common, cement particle boards (CPB). As the majority of the panel construction elements SIPs can be assembled to form floors, roofs and walls. In this case, they come as storey-height panels and can include pre-installed windows and facilities.
SIPS use to be finished with plasterboard lining in the interior side, and can be covered externally with any other material like bricks, stone, or timber.
