Modular House

    « Back to Glossary Index

Modular houses are built as a combination of three-dimensional units called modules, or pods. These volumetric modules are built in a factory-like environment and transported to the building site where they are set up in a fast and easy way. Each module is structurally self-sustaining and includes the electrical wiring, the plumbing and any other facility in order to simplify on-site works.

Both Modular and Panel-built houses can be built out of prefabricated panels. While Panel-built houses are fully assembled onsite, Modular houses have commonly a very small charge of work after living the factory. When the Modular House is the result of one single unit, like Cabins or Tiny Houses, the home is entirely finished at the factory.

You will find a large list of examples of these houses in our page of Modular houses.
